Acceptable Use & Community Guidelines
Last updated June 2026 · Applies to everyone who uses petolina.com, the Petolina iOS app, and any content posted to them
1. Who this applies to
These guidelines apply to all users — pet owners, sitters, and veterinarians — and to every piece of content you create: posts, comments, photos, listings, reviews, questions, answers, lost-pet reports, messages, and profile information. They supplement the Terms of Service; where there is any conflict, the Terms of Service control.
2. Things you must not do
- Post content that is harassing, hateful, threatening, defamatory, sexually explicit, or that promotes violence or self-harm.
- Post anything illegal, or that facilitates illegal activity (including the sale of prohibited animals, stolen goods, or counterfeit items in the marketplace).
- Deceive other users — impersonating a person, business, sitter, or veterinarian; faking reviews; or misrepresenting a pet, service, or qualification.
- Solicit or accept payment outside Petolina's booking system for sitter or vet services that originated on Petolina.
- Misuse the missing-pets feature — false reports, ransom demands, or harassing people who report sightings.
- Share another person's private information (address, phone, financial details) without their consent.
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract data, attempt to breach security, probe for vulnerabilities, or interfere with the Service.
- Send spam, chain messages, or bulk commercial messages, or use the platform to advertise unrelated products or services.
- Upload malware, or post links intended to phish or defraud other users.
3. Animal welfare
Petolina exists for the well-being of pets. Content that depicts or encourages animal cruelty, neglect, illegal breeding, or the sale of animals prohibited under Canadian or provincial law is not allowed and will be removed. Suspected animal cruelty may be reported to the relevant provincial authority.
4. Reviews and reputation
Reviews must reflect a genuine, completed booking. Do not write reviews for yourself, trade reviews, offer incentives for positive reviews, or post reviews containing personal data of non-parties. We do not edit reviews on a provider's behalf, but we remove reviews that violate these guidelines.
5. Reporting a problem
Every profile, post, listing, and message can be reported in-product, or you can email trust@petolina.com. Tell us what you saw and where (a link or username helps). For urgent safety issues involving a real and immediate risk to a person or animal, contact your local emergency services first, then notify us.
6. How we handle reports and content removal
We review reports and may remove content, issue a warning, restrict features, or suspend or terminate an account, depending on severity and history. We try to act on credible reports promptly and to notify the person who posted the content, unless doing so would create a safety or legal risk. If your content or account is actioned, you can ask us to review the decision by replying to our notice or emailing trust@petolina.com.
7. Intellectual property complaints
If you believe content on Petolina infringes your copyright, trademark, or other rights, email trust@petolina.com with: (a) identification of the work, (b) a link to the infringing content, (c) your contact information, and (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized. We will review and remove infringing content, and may remove accounts of repeat infringers.
